Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Charles Bernard Hommel passed peacefully on November 1, 2023 at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. He fought a valiant fight and was surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born on May, 28, 1952 to Helen and William Hommel. He attended and graduated from Perth Amboy Vocational High School. This is where he learned the craft of carpentry, which he excelled at for the next 50 years. He shared his knowledge and love of the trade with his friend, Thoma, his brother-in-law, Bob, and his son Charlie.
Charlie also loved sports and when he wasn’t watching his son or grandsons compete in basketball, football, baseball or golf, he was watching his beloved Mets or Jets on tv. Charlie was a true sports fan and cheered for many teams through the years.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Billy.
Charlie leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Karen Marie of Vero Beach; 2 brothers, Richard and Robert; his daughter, Melinda, of Port Reading; his son Charlie (Angy) of Colonia; and his much loved grandchildren, CJ, Dylan, and Hailey of Colonia and William of Port Reading.
Charlie had many friends and loved doing what he could do to help them. He will be remembered by these friends as a truly stand up guy. His family will remember him by his loyalty, his wittiness and his willingness to enjoy every cherished moment with his loved ones.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Petit Davis in Rahway from 2-4pm. A repass will be held at the Center Bar in Port Reading immediately following.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
