Dave Gracey, aged 88, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of November 11, 2023 after many years of gracefully coping with Frontal Lobe Dementia. His wife Glade (Roszell) of 66 years was sitting by his side, with their children Anne Palmer (Anton), Adam Gracey (Christine) and Jeff Gracey (Jaynie) all present and providing support. Their Grandchildren Courtney Palmer (Harvey), David Palmer (Fran), Jordan Palmer, Lucas Gracey (Anna), Tyler Gracey (Ashley), Morgan Gracey (Robert) and Alex Gracey were adding their love and support from a distance with Great Grandchildren Leo and Sienna thinking about him as well. Dave leaves behind a large circle of close friends and relatives who will also greatly miss him.

Dave was born in Springfield, Ontario, the eldest son of Ross and Irene Gracey (both deceased). He is survived by his older sister Lucille Robinson (H.M-deceased) and his younger brother Rick Gracey (Martha).

Dave and Glade were married on May 11, 1957 in Aylmer, Ontario shortly before Dave graduated from the Western University Ivy School of Business in June 1957. He was recruited from school to a position with Imperial Oil and was posted to Ottawa for several years before settling in Toronto. Dave worked for Imperial Oil and Exxon Mobil for his entire career, spending several years in Miami as well. In charge of Human Resources at the end of his career, he designed his own retirement package and he and Glade departed Toronto for the warmer climate of Florida within 24 hours of retirement. They settled at Vero Beach and built their dream home on Indian River and have spent the last 35 years enjoying the sunsets off the water.

As a longstanding member of Vero Beach Golf and Country Club, Dave spent a great many hours on the course with his wife, his golfing buddies and members of his family. He also loved to fish and could often be found throwing in a line from their dock, the beach or from his boat. He loved to maintain the lawn and gardens at their home, working up a sweat as he cut, trimmed and pruned everything in sight to a meticulous finish.

Have a glass of scotch or red wine as you think back on the many great memories Dave has provided for so many people. Dave will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Rick and I were so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. The IOL gang knew how to both work hard and play hard, and had a lot of laughs along the way. They will all be sorely missed by their legion of family and friends. From Rick and Donna (Foster) Matthews
