James B. Gwilym passed away January 2, 2017 at Indian river Medical Center.

Jim Gwilym was raised in Marion, Ohio by his mother, Ruth King Gwilym, and his grandfather, H. C. King, whose strength of character molded him into the fine man that he became. As a child, he ran everywhere he wanted to go… and loved to go to the movie theater where he could see a movie for a dime.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 18 where he served as a radio gunner in an SBD-40 “Douglas Dauntless” in the Philippines during WWII (“The Big War”)… and always downplayed his role, as did so many other heroes of that generation. He always gave the Marines credit for making him a man and allowing him to attend The Ohio State University on the GI Bill. He graduated from Ohio State with a degree in accounting and spent his entire career as a CPA with Ernst & Young in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Ohio, and Richmond, Virginia. He met and married Dorothy Verross in 1953 while working in Cleveland and went on to raise three children together in Rocky River, Ohio. He retired to The Moorings in Vero Beach where he enjoyed his retirement with family and friends.

His was a life well-spent. He set the standard for kindness and humility and was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy V. Gwilym; children Marly Williams (Mike) of Vero Beach, Jim Gwilym (Jennie) of Freeport, Maine, and Barb Gwilym of Vero Beach; and grandchildren Peter Gwilym, Lizzy Gwilym and Lettie Williams.
