Vero Beach, FL – Elizabeth Anne Carr, 82, passed away November 26, 2024 surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Elizabeth was born on September 4, 1942, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Dr. Henry M. Lemon and Mrs. Harriet (Qua) Lemon. The family moved to Weymouth, MA, where Elizabeth graduated from Weymouth High School.

Elizabeth went on to attend the University of Vermont, where she met Wendell E. Carr. The two were married in 1962 and spent much of their life together in South Burlington and Essex Junction, VT. It was there that Elizabeth, also known as Betsey to many close to her, began her lifelong labor of love as homemaker, mother, and matriarch.

For Elizabeth, family was everything. A loving sister cherished by her four siblings, and a radiant light of love and warmth to her four children, Elizabeth valued family time above all else. A particularly special time of year was summers spent on her father’s sailboat, Nepenthe, on Lake Champlain. There were many family gatherings on the lake, local campgrounds, and in her warm home where Elizabeth’s siblings and their families congregated to enjoy each other and create lifelong memories.

Beyond her own family, Elizabeth loved and accepted everybody in her life unconditionally. To know Elizabeth was to love her and be loved in return. She set a remarkable standard for grace and understanding.

In 1986, Elizabeth turned a new chapter in her life, juggling both the demands of being a mother as well as a full-time student at Champlain College. It was at Champlain College that Elizabeth met Arthur Snell, the professor of one of her classes. Elizabeth went on to marry Arthur in 1996.
After graduating Champlain College with an Associate Degree in Accounting, Elizabeth went on to have a successful career. Most notably, Elizabeth worked for many years as a business administrator and laboratory assistant at the UVM Waterman building.

Aside from family life and career, Elizabeth also was an avid bowler, earning many trophies which lined the staircase of their Essex Junction home. Elizabeth also enjoyed bridge, and frequently hosted bridge groups. Crochet was another of Elizabeth’s interests and talents, which resulted in many knit blankets enjoyed across multiple generations of family.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Arthur Snell; brothers David Lemon, Stanley Lemon, and H. Brace Lemon, sister Jennifer Schieck; her children and spouses: Cassandra and Bruce Bourgeois, Stephanie and David Massey, and Michael and Kristina Carr; son-in-law Dave Resi; 14 grandchildren: Michelle Nadeau (Bourgeois), Elizabeth Resi, Alexandra, Cara and Ayla Allen, Courtney, Stariana, Devyn, Aida, Isaiah and Maddie Massey, and Ava, Mason and Landon Carr; 9 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Elijah and Simon Nadeau, Millicent Resi, Scarlett, Lilliana and Axton Allen, and Rosalina and Rayna Massey; several cousins.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her daughter Millicent Resi; and grandsons Caleb Bourgeois and Payton Allen.

A ceremony will be held in the spring of 2025 at the Lowell Cemetery, in Lowell, MA, followed by a celebration of life. Exact date and details TBD.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
