David Paul Kane, 88, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 at Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida.  He was the third child of Solomon and Rose Kane who were first generation immigrants from Russia. His beloved parents, sister Miriam, brother Lee, and oldest child and only son, Barrett predeceased him.

David was born in 1936 and grew up in Millville, NJ. He graduated from the Valley Forge Military Academy in 1954 and briefly attended the University of Virginia before entering the United States Army.

During his two year service he was stationed in Italy part of that time as an MP and enjoyed his time there. He returned to the U.S. and joined his father and brother in the family business, Kane Brothers’ Scrap Iron and Metal based in Millville.

David married Sheila Berger in 1960. They raised three children, Barrett, Elyssa (Jeff Levine) and Suzanne (Ron Grosz), first in Millville then in Margate, NJ. After retiring from the scrap iron and metal business in the mid-1980s, he enjoyed doing manufacturing equipment appraisals around the country and also volunteered briefly with the Israel Defense Forces’ Navy. He and Sheila often spent time in Florida, the place David would eventually call home after they divorced.

In 1994, he met Mary Christine (Crews) Kane in Sarasota, FL. They married in August 1995. Their union was a “match made in Heaven.” David never failed to express his love and devotion to Christy during their 30 years together — a true and lasting love story. David enjoyed competitive trap shooting, boating, and being a volunteer docent for Historic Spanish Point in Osprey, FL where he and Christy had their wedding.

David and Christy shared a love for the beach, reading mystery and historical fiction novels, trap shooting, their dogs and cats, and spending time with close friends. After almost 20 years in Sarasota, and with both retired, they moved to Vero Beach in 2010. They enjoyed socializing with old and new friends, singing karaoke at various local events, and even more time at the beach.

David suffered a stroke in late 2012 which limited his ability to do many of the things he loved. He still enjoyed sitting by the beach, listening to the surf. Time together at home became more special over his later years, with children and their families visiting frequently. David was blessed to have wonderful care over many years from his devoted and loving wife and his loyal home health aide, James Fenn. David fought the good fight in the face of disability. He was always loving, caring and kind and, even on his worst days, never failed to express his love and appreciation for his wife, family and dear friends. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and never failed to tell them how much he liked the people they had become. He was caring and loving toward them all as well as toward his step children, step grand and great grandchildren. Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend — loving, kind, honest, generous, loyal and true — are all words that describe David. He will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

David was a great man and step-dad. He made my mom so happy in the years they shared. I will cherish the memories I have with him. I’ll miss you David even though we didn’t get to talk much when we did your words stuck with me.
