Mark Courtney Johnson, age 64, passed away June 12, 2025 at his home in Vero Beach.
He was born May 24, 1961 in Vero Beach, Florida.
Mark began his long career with the Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy in 1980. In 1981, he became a full time Law Enforcement Deputy. He served in the Ranch and Grove Unit and retired as a Corrections Deputy in 2012. He received many commendations and awards during his career including Corrections Deputy of the Year.
He was predeceased by his father, Everett Johnson; his biological father, Carl Cassell; and brother, Mitchell Cassell.
Survivors include his mother, Ann Johnson; daughter, Charlie Johnson; grandson, Colt Spahr; sister, Mary Cassell Laux; former wife, Dawn Johnson; beloved pet, Sipsie; his Friday lunch group and many other beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

I’m deeply sorry for the Johnson family’s loss. Mark was one of the first deputies I worked with as a rookie,I was gratefully he showed me the ropes. He was someone you could always count on, on and off shift. Rest in Peace brother✝️

Sending my deepest condolences to the Johnson family. I met Mark prior to getting hired at the Sheriff’s Office back in the early 90’s. Mark will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Working with Mark at the Sheriff’s Office was an honor and privilege. ✝️

Mark made me ride the Super Loop with him at the St. Helens carnival when it was a brand new carnival ride. I was scared as hell but his smile and calm demeanor conned me into it. Fast forward years later and I’m sitting in his IRCSO Bronco at Blue cypress as a reserve deputy carrying a .357 revolver thinking I was Superman on a poaching stake out. I remember we ate some good grub with Pete Marks place that day. God Speed Mark, you are missed and remembered everyday.

A beautiful and gentle light has gone out, but rest assured Mark Courtney Johnson is one of the great and consistent ones promoted to Heaven “and there he shall be with his Father in Paradise.” Be at peace for those of you who knew Mark. He is surrounded by warmth, emmense love and adoration.

I will my dearest friend Mr.Mark, I’m going to miss going to all the different food places with you. I’m also going to miss watching the soaps channel and the games shows with you.
