Joyce Hennings Cleland, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Vero Beach on June 16, 2026.
Born on October 3, 1939, in McLean, Virginia, Joyce was the daughter of the late George W. Hennings and Rebecca Carter Hennings.
A proud graduate of McLean High School’s Class of 1957, Joyce continued her education at Madison College, now known as James Madison University, for two years. She went on to build a successful career with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, where she served as Legal Secretary to the Associate General Counsel for 12 years.
In 1990, Joyce relocated from Virginia to Florida, where she made her home in Vero Beach. She was a devoted and longtime member of First Methodist Church of Vero Beach and cherished the friendships and faith community she found there.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew W. Cleland; her parents; and her two brothers, Rev. James C. Hennings (Sarah) and Gerald L. Hennings (Ann).
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her sons, James (Chris Ann) and Douglas (Julie), and her grandsons, Andrew and Jesse.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her cousin, Eileen Dent Hawk, for her love and support, and to the compassionate caregivers of VNA Hospice of Vero Beach for the exceptional care and kindness they provided.
Joyce will be remembered for her faith, devotion to her family, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life.
