Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Marie P. Fitzgerald, 69, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, in Vero Beach, FL.
Born in Hollywood, FL, on December 30, 1956, Marie moved to Vero Beach with her family in 1974 during her senior year of high school. She attended college at Indian River Community College and dedicated 35 years of service to the IRC Tax Collector’s Office before retiring to travel with her husband and spend more time with family.
Marie was best known for her sense of humor, her love for others, and, most importantly, her love for Jesus. Shortly before retiring, Marie gave her life to Christ and became a shining example of compassion and kindness to everyone around her. It was not uncommon to find stacks of Bibles and biblical literature throughout her home or Scripture displayed on her walls. In retirement, she spent much of her time attending Bible studies, fellowshipping with friends, and deepening her knowledge of God’s Word.
Marie had a special gift for bringing light to any situation. Hardly a moment passed without a joke, a smile, or laughter in her presence. She loved spending time with family, collecting books, and shopping. Alongside her husband and daughter, one of her proudest accomplishments was earning her 3rd Degree Black Belt in Karate and 2nd Degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu.
Marie is survived by her loving trophy husband, Bob; her three children, Dan (Jennifer) Brumley, Kristen (Jake) Gruell, and Shannon (Jason) Wesley; and her nine beloved grandchildren, Dan Brumley Jr., Wyatt Brumley, James McAlhany III, Charlie McAlhany, Kaitlyn Grace McAlhany, Jackson McAlhany, William “Fitz” Wesley, Benjamin Wesley, and Elizabeth “Birdie” Wesley. She is also survived by her sisters, JoAnn (Roy) Branner and Shelly (Steve) Perrault; her brother, Tony (Marina) Riggio; and her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Branner, Steven (Jessica) Perrault, Michael Perrault, and Gina Riggio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Lucy Riggio.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Calvary Chapel Vero Beach. Please join us in celebrating Marie’s life.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace knowing she is now resting in the presence of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the USKJA Scholarship Fund in her memory.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
