June Lewis McCandless, age 99, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, at VNA Hospice House.
Born on June 1, 1927, in Vero Beach, Florida, June was the beloved daughter of the late James and Emma McNeal Lewis. A lifelong connection to her community was reflected in her many years of dedicated service as an Ordering Manager for the City of Vero Beach, a position she truly enjoyed. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, which held a special place in her life.
June’s legacy lives on through her loving family, including her daughter, Kathryn Koonce; granddaughters, Michele Alexander, Kristina Walker, and Kayla Mericle; grandsons, James W. Koonce, Jr. and Steven Bergstrom; great-granddaughter, Ann Marie Hellman; one great-grandson and five great-great-grandsons. Her family will cherish the memories they shared with her and the love that will continue through generations.
She was predeceased by her seven brothers and seven sisters, as well as her sons, Michael Noel and Lawrence Wayne Noel, and her daughter, Janet Mericle Mitsakos.
A Memorial Service celebrating June’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County, 2300 5th Avenue, Suite 101, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
