SGM John David Williams, age 81, passed away on March 24, 2016 at Indian River Medical Center.
John was born on December 18, 1934 in Poinsett County, Arkansas to the late Elmer and Edith Williams.
SGM Williams served 26 years in the United States Army, before retiring in May of 1980. He was a combat Engineer in Vietnam and had many duty stations including Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and Italy. He also worked for the Department of Corrections as a lieutenant. John was also named correction officer of the year for the state of Florida.
In December of 1959, he married his beloved bride, Christa while in Mannhiem, Germany. Both John and Christa are members at Redeemer Lutheran Church where John was both an elder and President of the congregation for several years. Mr. Williams was also a Master Mason and a member of the Forget Me Not Lodge of the Masons, for the past 41 years.
He was strong, warm, supportive, and loving. There was always a joke to tell or a song to sing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Christa Williams; children, Edith (Chip) Buckman, Thomas (Debbie) Williams, Iris (Barry) Buckman, and Neal Williams; grandchildren, Daniella, Jenny, Ashley, Jennifer, Tyler, Tiffany, Sara, Erick, Alex, and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Lily, Kellen, Iris, Noah, Sadie, Oliver, Austin, McKenzie, Jon Paul, Zoe, and Ezra.
He was predeceased by son, John Joseph Williams.
There will be a memorial service held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 900 27th Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
