Suzanne M. Geyer, 93, of
Vero Beach, passed away Saturday, March 5th, 2016.
Born December 26, 1922 to Herbert and Caroline Marache in New York City, NY, Suzanne was raised in Hartsdale, NY and later Scarsdale, NY.
She was a graduate of The Masters School in 1941, Pine Manor College in 1943 and Goucher College in 1945.
Suzanne married David L. Geyer in 1947, raising their family in Scarsdale and later moving to Vero Beach in 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Geyer (Toby) Robinson; son, Gregory M. (Peggy) Geyer; two granddaughters, Carolyn Suzanne (Scott) McCandlish and Kathryn B. Timmons; and three great-grandchildren, Maia, Corinne and Liame McCandlish.
Mrs. Geyer was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and son, David L. Geyer, Jr.
Suzanne was so fortunate to have lived a wonderful life with her husband, David for 64 years. Together they traveled extensively. They flew over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon, sailed the Greek Islands, went on river cruises through France, traveled up the Nile , and enjoyed many other cruises and European vacations with friends.
Among some of Suzanne’s other accomplishments was a solo flight over Nantucket when she was in her 20’s. She was also a very talented equestrienne and showed many times in Madison Square Garden taking ribbons and trophies in Saddle Seat, Hunter Jumper and Equitation. Once her children were a little older she served as a Judge and Steward for the American Horse Show Association for many years.
Suzanne’s biggest passion, though, was for the animals. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help save them. She supported every cause and was very active with the Humane Society of Vero Beach for years. She volunteered as a dog walker and wrote for The Humane Times. She donated her time to Cause for Paws tirelessly and for many years was in charge of rounding up donations for the Silent Auction.
She was adored by her family, friends and neighbors and her passing has left a big void in the lives of many.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 14th, 2016 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, with The Rev. Michael W. Goldberg, officiating. A church reception will immediately follow.
