Bernice Brown O’Brien, age 82, of Vero Beach passed away on September 9, 2016 at VNA Hospice House.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Charles and Bernice Brown.
Bernice was a Cook County School Teacher and an accomplished Artist. She was a graduate of Loyola University, Chicago where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education.
Ms. O’Brien was very devoted to her artwork. She had theater training background and under Chicago artist George Rocheleau’s direction, she learned to express herself through painting. In 2009, Bernice was one of the 6 artists chosen to have their artwork reproduced on banners to display in downtown Vero Beach. Her chosen piece was titled “Pocahontas Building”.
In July 2016, Main Street Vero Beach had a drawing for one of Bernice’s paintings. The Vero News describes her beautiful art work and talents, “It seems that Bernie O’Brien’s brushstrokes captured the challenge of transforming a down-turned town into a fresh, enlivening locale. Bernie’s paintings tinged the burgeoning wild beasts of forlorn buildings into vibrant facades.”
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include her brother.
She was predeceased by husband, Dennis M. O’Brien; son, Dennis McLean O’Brien; sister, Mary Brown.
