Dorita Prindeville, 81, a retired school teacher, foreign language instructor and small business owner, died peacefully of natural causes on February 18 at her home in Vero Beach, FL.
Mrs. Prindeville was born Maria Dora Behar de Villegas in Medell�n, Colombia in 1933. She came to the United States in 1951 to attend college and received an Associates degree in Kindergarten education. After working as a camp counselor in the U.S. for three summers, she returned to Bogot�, Colombia to teach at the American School.
In 1955 she was offered a position by the U.S. State Department�s Foreign Service Institute (FSI) as a Spanish language instructor. There, in Washington, D.C., Dorita met her future husband, Charles Trego Prindeville Jr., and they married in July, 1957. After obtaining U.S. citizenship, she joined Trego at his first overseas diplomatic assignment at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines. Mrs. Prindeville later served with her husband in other postings for the Departments of State and Commerce in Spain, Washington D.C., Japan, Ecuador, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Panama. She studied nursing at Georgetown University�s School of Practical Nursing in the early 1960s, and served as an elementary school teacher and high school Spanish language instructor at several American and international schools during overseas assignments with her husband.
Dorita also worked in several volunteer roles during foreign assignments. In the early 1980s, after her husband�s retirement from the Foreign Service as a commercial attach�, she returned to the FSI to continue teaching. She later worked in the Washington DC area, running a gourmet food catering service with friends.
As a devoted Catholic, Dorita gave freely to others throughout her life. She sought to make a difference in peoples� lives and she did. Dorita B. Prindeville is survived by her brother Dario Behar of Bogot�, Colombia; her sister, Sarita Behar Johnston of Vero Beach, FL; three children and two grandchildren.
