Howard �Howie� Asa Mackie, 74, of Vero Beach, FL died on December 27, 2015, following and extended illness.
He was born in Norwood, MA and grew up in Cape Cod, MA, attending Hyannis Elementary and Barnstable High School. In 1957, his family moved to White River Junction, VT where he graduated from Hartford High School.
Howie attended Lyndon Teachers College. For 30 years he worked a job he loved, moving south to serve as District Supervisor with Cumberland Farms for the State of Florida; years later Howie and his second wife, Ann, opened “Mackie Mart” stores in both St. Lucie and Martin County.
Howie is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ann; sister, Priscilla Mackie Blake of Hopkinton NH; first wife, Anna Goffe Mackie and their children, Heather Mackie Wulkan, of Coconut Grove, FL, and Howard Asa Mackie, Jr. and his daughter, Emma of Charlotte, NC; his stepdaughter, Lisa Burford of West Palm Beach, FL; stepson, John Pyle of Port St. Lucie, FL; five step- granddaughters, and a step-grandson. He has many nieces and nephews from New England to Florida.
Howie was predeceased by his parents, Marian and Ernest Mackie of White River Junction; brother, Ronald E. Mackie, of Jacksonville, FL, and sister, Carolyn Harju of Hyannis, MA.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at the Lighthouse Church of God, 1190 27th Avenue, Vero Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
