Mallie Don “Poppie” Donohoe, Jr., 89, of Fort Pierce, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Port St. Lucie Nursing Home & Restorative Care Center.
He was born February 28, 1925 in Massillon, Ohio and had been a resident of Fort Pierce since 1977, coming from Southern California.
Don was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy during the Pacific Theater.
Poppie had worked as a general contractor, commercial fisherman and owned and operated a restaurant. He loved woodworking, crossword puzzles and reading.
Don was of Nazarene faith.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Donohoe of Ft. Pierce; sons, Mallie �Don� (Bonnie) Donohoe, III of Southern California and Scott Joseph (Holly) Foster of Ft. Pierce; daughter, Debra Margaret Donohoe of Southern California; sister, Orpha Perry of Port St. Lucie; grandsons, Todd and Matthew Donohoe, granddaughter, Jacqueline D. Vitek, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Poppie was predeceased by his brother, Harold Donohoe, sister, Dorothy Johns and grandson, Chad W. Donohoe.
A visitation will be held 10 a.m. to Noon, Saturday March 8, 2014 at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with a funeral service to follow at Noon, at the funeral home with Rev. Hugh King of the First Church of the Nazarene, Vero Beach, officiating. Military Honors will be given by the VFW Post 3918.
