Fred Harrell Peterson, 79, of Vero Beach, passed away on May 4, 2018 at the VNA Hospice House surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Fred was born in 1939 at the home of his parents on Lateral A/66th Avenue where Peterson Groves remains today. He and his brother, Ed, worked in the family business growing, selling and shipping citrus until they retired in 2013. Peterson Groves, through their father and brothers, supplied world famous Indian River Citrus since 1913. They started the UBagEm which is now used industry wide. Other than his family, farming and riding his tractors, Fred loved coaching baseball with his son and grandsons and was very proud of his star role as the Sheriff in the movie, Looking For Trouble. Some of his old time friends affectionately gave him the nickname “Hoss.”
He will be missed by his children, Ginger Marousky (David), Calvin Peterson (Nini), Cindy Cox-Dellerman (Mark) and Andy Cox; grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda), Kyle, Jennifer, Jonathan, Robert and Caleigh; sister, Pauline Washington; sister-in-law, Leona Peterson; many nieces and nephews and the mothers of his children, Jeanette McDaniel and Cynthia Peterson. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Axel T. Peterson Sr. and Lillian Lundeen Peterson; brothers, Axel, Jr., Edward and Karl; sister, Dorothy; sister-in-law, Jean Slusher and long time employee and friend, Jan Merrick.
He was grateful for the kindness and compassion of the staff at Solaris Senior Living over the last couple of years. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice or HALO Animal Rescue in his memory.
A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2018 at LaPorte Farms, 7700 129th St, Sebastian, FL 32958.
