George Herman Durr, age 85, Died April 22, 2020, in Vero Beach, Florida.

He was born in New York, New York, on December 21st, 1934. George Durr was an accomplished electronics expert with an education from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He invented a device that he sold to the electronics division of the General Dynamics Corporation and joined the staff of that company, then the nation’s No. 1 defense contractor. In the early 1970s, Mr. Durr was transferred to the company’s international sales force, based first in Australia and then Japan for about ten years as Vice President for Asia.

After leaving General Dynamics, Mr. Durr moved to Vero Beach, FL, where he started a software company known as AsiaSoft. Later, as he neared retirement, he began AsiaTech that mainly serviced and supported Apple Computer products in Indian River County. He had many local customers that he helped and, ultimately, many new friends that dearly enjoyed his services.

He was known to friends and colleagues for a droll sense of humor and dry wit, never hesitating to provide a jesting comment. He also had a fondness for Asian food and delighted in introducing friends and family to the more exotic varieties.

Survivors include his wife Seong E. Durr, brother-in-law Ho Young Kim (wife Mi Hwa), and their three children, two sons, Tom (wife Soraya), and Richard (wife Enka), daughter Suzanne Stark (husband Jon), twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

George was predeceased by his parents, George F., and Eleanor Bohling Durr, from Teaneck, New Jersey.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Tom, Richard and Suzie, So sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. He was such a talented genius. Good looking, too. And yes, Tom, you look just like him. Keep in touch, please. Cousin Val.

We met George 37 years ago…..we had no idea the years ahead would be so fun and full of precious memories.
When George was with General Dynamic’s, they ran into a complicated issue requiring an Apple expert. Apple referred George to Bob Russell in Portland OR. That was the beginning of our story together.
Over the years, I remember Bob’s cell phone ringing at odd hours often in the middle of the night. When I would go see if everything was OK…I could hear “GEEK SPEAK” and knew it was George and Bob working out some complicated issue together. They both shared a passion for the ‘fix’.
Even though we lived on opposite ends of the nation, it didn’t interfere with visits to each other’s homes.
When the visits were at our house…my meals were usually ‘all American’ with very little flair. It didn’t take long for George to suggest he do the cooking. Not only was he a great cook, he had a passion for special cooking utensils/tools. None of which I had…so off to Portland’s famous Kitchen Kaboodle to shop for gadgets I’d never seen or heard of.
We were all so comfortable together, it was a joy when he and Seong E came and an absence when they left.
There’s no words to describe the loss….but, thank you George for the fun times, the good meals, the stories of love about your kids, your unconditional patience with your puppies, and the never ending chats about the luck we both felt for knowing each other.
Rest in peace dear friend.
