Janet Griese passed away peacefully on October 15, 2018 at the age of 87. She loved life and her family, staying strong and positive until the very end.
The daughter of Ward Fowler and Evelyn Steenson Fowler, Janet Elaine grew up in Hammond, Indiana attending Hammond High and Central College in Pella, Iowa. Janet was very active in Glee Club, A Coppella Choir, Melodears vocal group, Junior Classical League, Auto Club and was Chi Beta sister. She finished her college education at Indiana University.
Janet married the love of her life, Edward Griese, and honeymooned and vacationed in Vero Beach. They built their dream home in Indiana, but after a 1963 winter Janet and Eddie put their home on the market, packed up their four children and decided to make Vero Beach their new home. Living beachside Janet loved walks on the beach with her children while watching Eddie fish for the evenings’ fresh catch.
Janet taught Honors English and Latin at Vero Beach High School and later accepted the position as Librarian at Osceola Elementary. She completed her career at Indian River Memorial Hospital. Janet enjoyed retirement with her family and she and Eddie enjoyed their travels. Janet was a big fan of the Miami Marlins, an expert at logic problems and crossword puzzles, and enjoyed Solitaire and watching Chain Reaction and Wheel of Fortune. She believed this helped to keep her mind sharp; which it surely did.
Janet is survived by her faithful son, Jim (Courti) Weaver and loving daughter, Jan Griese (John) Moree. Mrs. Griese is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edward, son Ron Weaver, daughter Jill Griese Clear and infant son Timmy Griese. She is survived by grandchildren Jason (Gillian) Krieger, John (Rachel) Moree, Kristy Moree (Scott) Beane, Michael Edward Clear, great grandchildren Colin, Brody, Tallulah, Lyla, cherished sister Nancy Yercine, and will be forever remembered by nieces and nephews Kim Gall, Linda (Carl) VanDyke, Mark Yercine, Nathan Gall, Summer VanDyke and many additional nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
It was Janet’s wish that a private celebration of her life be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Janet asked that “above all, be kind to one another.” She believed kindness was one of the most important parts of daily living. Thank you Mama, we will miss you.
