Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Patrick James McCann (Jim) announces his passing on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in North Hutchinson, Florida. Jim passed peacefully at home in the presence of his family.
Born in Bronx, New York in 1940, Jim was the only boy and youngest of four children. He spent his youth in Nutley, NJ., and graduated from Nutley High School in 1958. At the age of 18, he joined the army and served in Germany for two years. On April 25, 1964, Jim married the love of his life Sheila and started their family of three.
Jim was an avid tennis player, chess player and lover of running, cycling and swimming. He loved the warm weather and often took his family on vacations to Florida where he could enjoy the sun and sand with his wife and children. After 30 years working as an executive for Lorillard Inc., he retired at the age of 57, and relocated to his dream home in Florida with his wife Sheila.
Jim was a beloved husband; father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim’s parents Patrick and Alice McCann and his sisters Mary, Alice, and Madeline preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Sheila, his son Jim, his daughters Nancy and Trish, his grandchildren Kimberly, Aiden, Cara, Aaron, Connor, and Grayson, and his great grandchildren Michael and Logan.
A funeral mass is planned for February 10, 2022, at 10am., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Ln, Vero Beach, FL 32963.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach, FL.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me: When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand: the angel said my place was ready, In Heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, and told me “Welcome Home.” So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart. Sheila, Jim, Nancy and Trish; I hope this message helps during this most difficult time.

Rest in Peace dear classmate. Your beloved baseball is already in a mess w/o you. Hope they agree on something. I am glad I did not let you lore me onto the tennis courts as you were assured of easy wins. You were one of the nicest, most easygoing fellows and a wonderful classmate. May Sheila and the family have courage going forward. It was an honor knowing you.

Just heard the news. Since I am a former tennis player and former Florida resident, it’s easy to understand why you wanted to retire in the Sunshine State. May God bless your family, and may you rest in peace.

Just learning of this sad news. I am so very sorry. I graduated with Jim from Nutley High School but I remember him most during the elementary school years at St. Mary’s where he was known as “James”. He was very, very smart, quiet and kind. May he rest in God’s heavenly peace. I will keep all your family in my prayers.

Rest in peace, Jim! Wishing I could have hit a few tennis balls with you, but you’d no doubt have taken an easy three sets off me.
