G.George White, 84, passed away on February 4, 2019, in Vero Beach, Florida, after a long battle with heart disease.
G.George White was born to Basil and Dorothy White, in Addison, Maine, on September 26, 1934.
George served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963, and was stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
After the service, he returned to the Bangor area, and sold cars for the Sullivan Ford dealership, building a successful career in sales. Upon the closing of Sullivan Ford Sales, George sold insurance until his retirement in 1994.
On September 4, 1970, George married Marlene Murray, of Carmel, Maine. Marlene was his companion, the mother of two of his children, and his angel. She devoted many years to his care, and was by his side until the very end, holding his hand.
A self-taught musician, George would often play the guitar and sing old country and western songs. He taught himself to play the guitar, the harmonica, and the piano. He had a beautiful voice and knew many of the old standards by heart. George also was a gifted mechanic, outdoorsman, and poet. He had a knack for figuring out how things work. He loved animals, and accepted many rescues into his home.
George was an honorable man with a steel handshake and a soft heart. He will be deeply missed.
George White is survived by his wife, Marlene, of 49 years; his children, Joseph White of Key West, Florida, and Jenny W. Coleman and her husband, Loren Coleman, of Portland, Maine; as well as extended family members in central Maine.
