Adam James Wanzer, 41, of Ocala, FL, passed peacefully but unexpectedly in his sleep on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was born in Washington, DC, on June 11, 1975, to Boyd and Mary Wanzer.
A.J. was kind, compassionate, and helpful. As a child, he distributed food and warm clothing to the homeless on the streets of Baltimore and Washington, DC, sometimes on very cold nights. He lived most of his childhood in Northern Virginia. He was the goalie for the award winning Washington Little Capitals traveling ice hockey team, coached by his Dad. He always enjoyed cheering for his Dad’s race horses at Pimlico Race Track, and attending Washington Redskins games as well as the Washington Capitals hockey games.
While in Jr. High School, he moved with his family to Bethany Beach, DE. He attended Junior and Senior high school at Worcester Preparatory School in Berlin, MD where he played basketball.
“A.J.” received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Marymount University in Arlington, VA where he was on the tennis team. He took pride working in sales. He sold IT Training for Learning Tree International in Reston, VA, and later won many sales awards while working for Carnival Cruise Lines.
He is survived by his mother, Mary, of Hutchinson Island, FL; his brother, Chris; and sister-in-law, Shelby, living in Lafayette, LA. He was preceded in death by his father on January 31, 2017.
A.J. enjoyed traveling, skiing, and other sports, as well as off-shore fishing with his Dad and brother, Chris. He had a great sense of humor. His smiling face and loving big hugs will be missed.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Notre-Dame Mission Catholic Church, 217 US-1, Fort Pierce, FL 34950 He will be interred with his father, Boyd, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Notre Dame Catholic Mission in Fort Pierce, FL.
