Anne was nicknamed “Shrew” while in college at NMU. She lived in Dionysus House and has remained active with the group these 40+ years later. Friends in the house remember her positive energy as we competed in Broomball and built snow statues during the winter festival (which we won in 1975). She was active on the year round intramural teams and participated and offered leadership to many hall activities. She encouraged all of us to learn how to cross country ski where she actively participated and competed-in a time when letters were not awarded to NMU women, only the men. She loved to laugh and fondly remembered rich stories whenever we met up in Marquette for reunions. A gem of an individual who gave tirelessly to friends and life. She will be missed. Rest in peace Shrew, you gave it everything you had!

My wife Jean and I were very sad to hear of Ann’s passing. We always enjoyed talking to her when meeting her on our Cul de Sac. She was a sweet lady. Steve and the rest of the family, you have our sympathy.

I am going to miss your Facebook postings. It was so nice to know there was someone else in the world that felt like me. Your sense of humor was like no one else. The world is a little less happy without you. I loved how much you loved your family and enjoyed the stories. You were an important part of turning me into the women I am today. You will be missed. Thank you for being my friend…….

Anne, our Shrew. You were small in statue but tall and large in heart, soul, laughter and joy. You made me feel better about myself and the world around me manageable. Many of us Dionysus gals enjoyed seeing your travels and family though your posts. But a visit with you in person was the best. You are infectious! Joy and kindness abound in your wake. You are the best of what Dionysus is- a collective family of ladies who empower and endure. You will be missed, but NEVER forgotten. Toasts to you will continue at every Dionysus reunion, because you helped make us -Dionysus. Love, The Wench.

Shrew was my best friend at Northern…and we remained close all these years. She was one person I would listen carefully without being defensive when she needed to say something. We spent a summer at camp as counselors and we were dorm roommates. There were so many late night talks and shenanigans that cannot be named. She was a true friend and I will forever miss her even more now that I can’t talk to her. Rest in peace dear Shrew..you will always be so loved.

My sincere condolences go out to Anne’s family. Anne & I were close in high school & in college. We roomed together a couple of times while at university. She never failed to bring out my sense of fun & adventure. I smoked my 1st pot with her—I’ll never forget how squeaky our shoes were! I’ll always remember when I froze her underwear & she didn’t notice for week! But she got her revenge when she hung mine in the tree in front of our house. We hitchhiked out west together—what an experience that was! Anne will certainly be missed. I’m just sorry we never got the chance to reconnect here in Florida.

Anne’s Family- Shrew was a housemate at NMU in Majors Hall, Dionysus House. We grew up in those years and probably learned more from each other than our classes. Shrew taught us compassion and caring. We went on with our separate lives, but we all managed to stay in touch and also joined for reunions. Her passing is leaving a huge empty space in our group . She will not be forgotten and will be with us forever. You, her family, will be in our thoughts and prayers also.

I feel honored to have called Anne “my friend.” We grew up one street apart in Negaunee and she certainly was proud of all things “Yooper.” She was an amazing woman so incredibly kind; she always found the good in people and had an unwavering faith. She worshiped the ground her children and grandchildren walked on, and talked often about the family, the vacations, and certainly her vision of the future which continued to include “giving back,” but also entertaining guests by the new pool, and traveling more with Steve. My deepest condolences to her family, I shall miss her terribly.

We had the honor of knowing and being neighbors with Anne for over 30 years. She was an amazing person who always made you feel valuable. She had a bright light and made a difference in every life she came into contact with. Her joy and laughter was contagious and she was always so excited for every accomplishment you had. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was funny without even trying. Her family was so important to her and she was so incredibly proud of them. We have so many wonderful memories with her and the impact she had on our family will be with us forever.

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the family of my dear friend Annie. Like many of the other people that left messages I too was a college friend of Annes. Anne, & I were on the NMU Cross Country Ski team together. I’m not sure that I would have had the courage to compete at that level, on those treacherous courses, if it weren’t for her encouragement and support. Whenever I think of Anne, I have to smile. Until we meet again, thank you, Annie for being my friend.
