Bertha Sharp, 93, of Vero Beach, Florida, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Born and raised in Canoochee, Georgia, Bertha started her family in Atlanta before moving to Vero Beach in 1964, when she and her husband acquired the WAXE AM radio station.

A dedicated homemaker early in life, Bertha later worked as a secretary in Atlanta. In Vero Beach, she served as a paralegal at the firms of Gould, Cooksey, Fennell, Appleby, and McKinnon; McKinnon and Stewart; and finally, The Law Offices of Robert Jackson, from which she retired.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Vero Beach, where she taught Sunday School and served as a deacon, touching countless lives with her faith and kindness.

Bertha’s adventurous spirit led her to travel the world alongside her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, and church family. Highlights included trips to Mexico, the Holy Land, New York City, and the western U.S.—from the majestic Grand Canyon to the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona. Yet, her heart always drew her back to the serene mountains of north Georgia and North Carolina, where she found her greatest peace.

Bertha is survived by her daughter, Susan Sharp of Tucker, Georgia; son, John Sharp of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; granddaughters, Michaela (Joe) Heaton, Carly (Eric) Snyder, and Macy (Zeke) Hurst, all of Vero Beach; great-grandsons, Gage and Grant Hurst of Vero Beach; sisters, Helen Edenfield of Atlanta, Georgia, and JoAnne (Kenneth) Harper of Canoochee, Georgia; and nephews, Chris (Mel) Edenfield of Atlanta and Joe Harper of Canoochee.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Sharp; son, James “Jay” Sharp, Jr.; parents, Joseph and Bridie Black; brother-in-law, Sammie Edenfield; niece, Tara Hutchison; brother-in-law, Felix “Flip” Sharp, Jr.; sister-in-law, Ollie Sharp; and nephew, Fland Sharp.

A Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 a.m., with a Funeral Service beginning 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

My family’s, heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to Bertha’s Children and Grandchildren. As we grew up together and were loved by Bertha as part of her family. She will be missed, and we will mourn her passing. But knowing she is with her James, and with my parents (probably having a good time up there) asking her how everyone was and telling her the latest news. This comforts me and I hope it will comfort them too. She was Loved, and will be missed.

Pam Weaver – Vero Beach Neighbor and close friend for many years……Bertha was always just a few steps from my house – thru the hole we made in the hedge between our yards. I even made a brick walkway thru that hole so we wouldn’t get our shoes wet or dirty when we walked that path. Over almost 50 years we racked up countless wonderful visits. I was made to feel welcome every time I visited. Bertha and Jim were family. Bertha was a wonderful cook and she gave me many cooking lessons and always shared what she was cooking, along with the recipe. I never saw a printed recipe- she just knew how to cook everything and would tell me. My two sons, Richard and Randy were also always welcomed at “Mr. and Mrs. Sharp’s house .” They were made to feel very special – almost like grandsons. I could go on and on…..what a wonderful lady and friend – the best❣️She and Jim will always hold a special place in my heart.

It was a pleasure to care for Bertha Sharp. The last time I saw Bertha last weekend I gave her a hug and we always pray together. Everyone we prayed I can see in her eyes approval and comfort. Bertha will be miss, and what I will miss the most is her smile.

Today was a beautiful service and tribute to Bertha. She truly was an angel. John, you did such a great job with the eulogy. It brought back so many great memories of working with your mother and so many laughs we shared. It was so nice to see you and Susan. Your mom always held a special place in my heart. She always had such good advice for me when I went through some hard times. Somehow your work family becomes a second family to you. I remember when we had a cabin in Murphy, NC. Your parents rented it for a week and I believe Susan joined them there. So long ago, it’s hard to remember. My fondest memories of Bertha was her smile and her laugh. We shared many over the years. God bless you all during this time. – Jeanie

My earliest childhood memories include the Sharps. Bertha was my Mom’s (Lois) best friend. Our families spent church time, many meals and beach days together! Spent the night with you, Susan, as children. Of course with Jay playing “big brother” pain in our ….! I remember Bertha holding you, John, up to the window as the hospital did not allow children in. Your house was the “fun” house and I hold those memories dear. Bertha’s smile and laughter were infectious. Even after many years apart she always made us feel welcome during any visit. John and Susan, what a blessing the two of you were in her life, especially the last few years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Just knowing that she had so many family and friends already there to walk her home helps a bit. I am sure my Mom was one of them. I will treasure those memories and love you forever!
