Boyd Eugene Wanzer, 75, of N. Hutchinson Island, died Jan. 31, 2017. The funeral took place the next day, at Notre Dame Catholic Mission, in Fort Pierce.
Boyd, son of James and Ruth Wanzer, passed away at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL; with family at his side, after fighting a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He is survived by his son, Christopher and daughter-in-law, Shelby, living in Lafayette, LA; and his wife of 52 years, Mary. His son, Adam passed away on April 6, 2017.
In 1964, he obtained his a B.S. degree at Northland College in Ashland, WI, where he played ice hockey and football. He also met his wife, Mary, at Northland. They married the day before they both graduated from Northland and then relocated to Northern Virginia.
Boyd worked for the MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA as the Director of Personnel and Administration, and for MCI Communications in Washington, DC, as Assistant to the President. Later he opened a business, “The Office Answer” in Bethany Beach, DE.
Boyd had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. His passion was coaching his ice hockey team “The Washington Little Capitals” to many championships. Other passions included racing his horses at Pimlico race track, off shore fishing, skiing, and deer and duck hunting with his boys. He enjoyed traveling, walks on the beach, attending the Washington Redskins games, the Washington Capitals ice hockey games and cheering for the Florida Gators and Villanova Wildcats.
His family and friends were always the most important aspect of his life until the very end. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Inurnment will take place 11:30 AM, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens beside his son, Adam.
