Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Carl Eugene Holthaus lost his fight against cancer September 21, 2017 while living in Vero Beach, Florida.
Carl was born June 1, 1937 in Baileyville, Kansas to Bernard E. and Ileta Ethelyn (Neiberger) Holthaus and
grew up in a loving family on a dairy farm.
He was married to Madge Morton on April 23, 1960, and they raised two lovely daughters together:
Kelly Diane Holthaus and Tracy Kay Holthaus. Carl and Madge later divorced.
On November 10, 1979, Carl was married to Maureen Kemsley. Maureen already had two children:
Denise Maureen Stockton and Jennifer May Stockton, and they became part of Carl’s family and were
lovingly raised by him.
After leaving school Carl joined TWA in Kansas City, and worked for them for 38 years, retiring in 1993
when he started a new career in airline consulting during which time he traveled the world extensively.
He loved aviation and owned, and built, planes of his own that he loved to fly.
Maureen and Carl lived in Shawnee, Kansas, for many years and in 2011 they moved to Vero Beach,
Florida, where he enjoyed his final years surrounded by wonderful friends. He was a caring, helpful
neighbor and will be remembered by his community.
Carl was preceded in death by both his parents; a sister, Mary Ann, who died as a baby; his brothers
Robert Joseph and Henry Alvin, and a sister Patricia Irene Lynch. His wife Maureen survives him, along
with his sister Barbara Jean Stedman, who also lives in Florida, his daughters Kelly Oseas (David), Tracy
Holthaus, Denise Pitzman (Gordon) and Jennifer Roy (Jim). He also has five grandchildren Corinne Ogle,
Sophie Ogle and Leo Ogle; Joseph Caponetto and James Caponetto.
It was Carl’s wish to be cremated and to not have a formal service, but to be remembered at a later
gathering by friends and family.
His family would like to thank all the staff at the VNA Hospice House in
Vero Beach for the kind, loving, respectful way they treated him in his final days.
