Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Surrounded by her loving family, Carol Solmon Brockway, age 75, passed away peacefully at the Indian River Memorial Hospital January, 1, 2015, after a brief illness.
Carol was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April, 20,1939. As an only child, she grew up in northeast Ohio, spending many winters with her parents, Chris and Mae Solmon, in Jensen, Ft.Pierce, and Wabasso. In 1954 her family moved permanently to Wabasso, and Carol attended Vero Beach High School. One of her most enjoyable times after high school was attending the VBHS class of 57 monthly dinners. After high school, she attended Indian River Community College before going to work as a secretary/bookkeeper for Pan American Engineering. She then worked as a receptionist for the Social Security Administration. Later, she took a Social Worker position with the Economic Opportunity Council, and, in 1990 and 2000, worked as a data coordinator for the U.S. Census Bureau. Her last position before retirement was a housekeeper for the Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic for 20 years.
Carol enjoyed her many social activities which included the Red Hats, Wabasso Womens Group, KLES and St. Helens Womans Club. She was a busy volunteer as well, doing work for Meals On Wheels, Center For The Arts, fundraising for Sunshine Physical Therapy Center, St. Helens CCD, and St. Helens Harvest Festival.
Things that Carol loved to do were sing, and until arthritis slowed her down, dance. She loved meeting new people and helping whenever and wherever she could. But her biggest love in life was that of family and friends. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with her four children, having the grandchildren over for a day, and seeing great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband of 35 years Ron Brockway, children Debra Mank (Bill), Tammy Williams (Jim), Kellee Sullivan (Mike), Christopher Thompson (Diane), Ginny Grobman (Alan), Adrienne Brockway (Ruth), 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and extended family.
Please join the family on January 10th, between 3 and 5pm at the Lowther Funeral Home, 1655 27th Street, Vero Beach for a remembrance of Carols life. A memorial service will start at 5pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation in Carols name be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
