Carolyn R. Hartwig, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2017.

Carolyn graduated from Oxford Academy and Central High School in Oxford, NY. She attended Texas Southern University and received a Master’s degree in Gerontology from St. John Fischer College in Rochester, NY. Prior to her retirement, Carolyn was Coordinator of Assisted Living at the Village at Park Ridge in Rochester, NY for 15 years, Administrator of Assisted Living at The Highlands at Pittsford, NY for 5 years, and the Executive Director for Alterra Healthcare in Vero Beach, FL for 5 years. Throughout her life she was a staunch advocate for senior rights and active in the Greater Partnership for the Elderly in Rochester, NY, serving on the Board of Directors.

Carolyn’s greatest pleasures in life were her family and helping seniors. She is survived by her loving husband, John D. Hartwig, Jr., her beloved dog, Baxter, as well as her children, John T. Hartwig of Rochester, NY and his fiancée, Gretchen VanGeison Schicker, her daughter Jennifer Howarth and son-in-law Christian Howarth, and her son Thomas Hartwig. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Keith Dobles (age 26), Alexis Hartwig (age 19), Ethan Hartwig (age 16), Jacob Howarth (age 6), Dylan Howarth (age 4), and her step granddaughter Ashley Mroczek (age 24 ), as well her great grandchildren Olivia (age 11), Payton (age 9), Tyler (age 6), Colin (age 4), and Weston age (2).

A Celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on October 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home located at 1655 27th St., Vero Beach, 32960.
