Charles E. Pat McConnell
Pat was born in Junction City, Kansas to C.M. and Ada McConnell and grew up in Council Grove, Kansas where he attended schools and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1943.

Upon graduation he joined the Navy. Pat served as a Radioman in the South Pacific during World War II, until his discharge in 1946.

Pat attended the University of Kansas. He married Phyllis J. Ottinger on July 9, 1950. The couple lived in Council Grove until August of 1958. Pat was active in the Jr. Chamber and Kiwanis Club. He taught Sunday school Jr. High classes and was a basketball referee for eight years.

Pat and Phyllis moved to Davenport where they lived until July 2000. Pat was a member of Faith UMC and was active in church as head usher, serving on most church committees.

After retirement from the credit reporting business, Pat became interested in the grass roots part of the political scene. He was very much involved in the campaigns for candidates. Pat was chairman of the Davenport Republicans in the late eighties and early nineties. He said it was fun and he probably met 5,000 people and enjoyed the opportunity to serve.

Pat and Phyllis were the parents of Michael, Dennis and Brenda.

July 2000 Pat and Phyllis moved to Vero Beach and became members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Pat stayed active in ushering and working with the church youth group. He had been ushering since 1950, enjoying all the hugs.

Upon moving to Vero Beach, he volunteered for the Treasure Coast Youth Tour each summer. Pat had also volunteered and supported the Vero Beach High School Girls Golf team. He was affectionately called Mr. Pat by the youth who knew him.

Survivors include his son, Dennis (Doris) of Vero Beach; daughter, Brenda of Des Moines, IA; brother, Dr. Bill of Crossville, TN; Eric and Patricia Domrose of Jacksonville, FL; and grandchildren, Stephen, Dorothy, and Cody Bryant of Bixby, OK.

His son, Michael, wife, Phyllis, and sister in law, Ruth, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, June 14th at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1708 43rd Ave., Vero Beach.
