Craig Cunningham, formerly of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away in Vero Beach, Florida at the age of 65.

Craig was a Manufacturing Engineer and graduate of Purdue University.

He was also a strawberry farmer, managing the Pretty Prairie Berry Farm in Battle Ground, Indiana for 12 years.  A jack-of-all-trades, he could fix, build, or install almost anything.  Craig loved to take on a new challenge.  He would take something apart, troubleshoot it, and put it back together instinctively.  An athlete, Craig mastered and thoroughly enjoyed many sports: baseball, football, basketball, softball, tennis, golf, volleyball, scuba diving, horseback riding, snow skiing (downhill and cross-country), boating, bicycling, and motorcycling.  He also enjoyed hiking in the North Carolina mountains where he often vacationed with family, friends, and dogs.  An avid reader, chess player, and historian, Craig loved to invoke the Socratic method, asking probing questions to engage in a real examination of ideas.

In his life, Craig was passionate about many things, but especially about his many dogs that he had over the years.  They were inseparable…and well-loved.  May he join them now in lasting peace and happiness.  A small family service is planned at a later date.

Preceded by his father’s passing Paul “Gene” Cunningham, surviving relatives are his mother, Barbara Cunningham, former wife, Nancy Cunningham, and a large family of cousins.  If you would like to make a donation that would make Craig smile, please contribute to Habitat for Humanity.

Arrangements by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Craig was a good friend from our baseball playing days in junior and senior high school. After I graduated from college we lived on the strawberry farm (was one of the initial workers so to speak). Was part of the wedding party but lost touch a few years after that. Did touch base a few times through Facebook but never had the opportunity to meet in person. Good memories.

Mrs. Barbara Cunningham, My sincere condolences to you. I have so many fond memories of Craig from our school days together. He was always so sweet and kind to me. He always had the biggest smile! I remember coming to your house with my mother as you curled her hair hoping to see Craig. Lol! I had reconnected with Craig earlier this year. It was so nice to talk to him. My deepest sympathy and prayers for you at this time. Sandy (Treida) Greeley

You all have my heartfelt sympathy. Craig was an awesome guy and definitely a gentleman. I remember going to his and Nancy’s house for the first time. He introduced me to Manatees. Showed me how to pet them. Gave me some memories I will never forget. I truly am sorry for your loss. He definitely will be missed

Ted and I shared such wonderful times/afternoons with them. So much laughter and good talks. We also share a love of dogs, not having children, our pets were our kids! Live goes in different directions sometimes … We will always have good memories.

We worked together at Sikorsky Helicopters for (3) years and became close friends on and off the job. I left in 2008 to pursue other aircraft opportunities and left Florida. I just returned last year hoping to get back with him and Nancy. He was a great guy and took my wife and I out for a boat ride when we visited him in 2008, where we actually saw some porpoises swimming along side his flat top boat. So sorry to learn of his passing. Our condolences to Nancy and family.
