Debbie Humphreys passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 6th in her home on N. Hutchinson Island, FL, under the care of VITAS Hospice. Debbie was born in Gadsden, Alabama, living there most of her life until she married. After marriage she then resided in Texas, Oklahoma, Germany, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Indiana, before retiring back to Florida.
Debbie is a graduate of Auburn University and later earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education from UAB, and taught elementary school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After moving to Vero Beach, she began painting under the mentoring of Highwayman George Buckner. Many of her Florida inspired paintings are in homes and businesses throughout the Treasure Coast
She is survived by her husband of 48 ½ years, Clay Humphreys; daughter Amy (Jason) Revels of Ft Pierce, FL; son Drew (Krystle) Humphreys of Amesbury, MA; six grandchildren, Lilly, Micah, Cash & Jace Revels of Ft Pierce, Cora Burke & Miles Humphreys of Amesbury, MA, and brother Gene (Angie) Chunn of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents, G.W. & Ina Chunn and younger brother, Eric Chunn.
She was a member of the Vero Beach Church of Christ, where she & Clay served for 11 years, and the Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Indiana, where they served before retiring in 2018. While in Bloomington she volunteered at the Community Kitchen of Monroe County and requested that friends and family consider donating to the C.K. at P.O. Box 3286, Bloomington, IN 47402 (www.monroecommunitykitchen.com) or a local food bank.
A memorial service for Debbie will held at a later date.
