Donna peacefully flew into the arms of Jesus the day before Thanksgiving!  She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom E. and Bertha Talley of Abingdon, Virginia; son, Greg Garrett of Roanoke; and grandson, Spenser Garrett of Roanoke, Virginia; sister, Ann Talley Berry Hardee of Winston-Salem, NC; and father of her children, Carter F. Garrett of Abingdon, Virginia.

Donna leaves three children, Carol Ann Garrett Smith of Roanoke, Virginia; Frank Garrett (Teresa Garrett) of Fincastle, Virginia; and David Allen Garrett of Vero Beach, Florida; brother, Tom (Julianne) Talley of Vero Beach; and sister Carol Clifton of Abingdon, Virginia.

She also leaves 7 incredible grandchildren: Marie Garrett Deel, Brandon Garrett, Frank Garrett, Tommy Garrett, Stephanie Garrett, and Emily Smith Bialek; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Donna spent her early years living in Abingdon, Virginia attending Cleveland High School and then studied piano at Virginia Intermont College.

Most of her married life was lived in Roanoke, Virginia.

In 2010, Donna moved to Vero Beach to be closer to her son Allen and to enjoy the warm Florida weather.  She spent the last years of her life serving the community by going to nursing homes and playing piano, talking with the residents as well as volunteering with The Women’s Refuge in Vero Beach.

Most recently she attended Central Assembly Church with her son, Allen.

Donna loved her children and her grandchildren and loved writing articles, personal letters and journaling.  Donna spent many hours reading her Bible and had marked all over several Bibles with notes and highlighting her favorite verses.   In her last years, she never let a nurse or assistant leave the house without making sure they knew the Lord Jesus as their Savior.

Donna was on this earth for 1 week shy of 92 years and lived her life to the fullest, always happy, upbeat, smiling and looking for ways to serve others, never taking any credit for herself.  Donna was looking forward to meeting Jesus face to face and welcomed her new address.

She leaves behind incredible memories, love and a legacy that will not be forgotten.  We all have big shoes to fill.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 10am, Central Assembly of God in Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
