It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Marie Almond announce her passing on October 6, 2024 at home after a long and fulfilling life.  Born on January 27, 1929 to John Borrow and Florence (Taynor) Borrow in South Plainfield, NJ. Doris was raised in the South Plainfield area and attended Scotch Plains High School.

In 1948 she met John Anthony Wilverding.  They were married in December of 1949 and together they raised their five children.  Doris returned to the workforce, after having been a stay-at-home mom, and was employed by RCA in Rahway, NJ.  Later she worked at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ where she was eventually appointed Director of Volunteers.

After the death of her first husband, Doris relocated to Vero Beach, FL. It was there that she was gainfully employed at Flight Safety and met and later married John Dixie Almond III, who also predeceased her.

Doris is survived by her children:  Patti McEnerney (Jep), Judy Keller (Lee), Nancy Schuster (Mike), Cathie Burns, and Tom Wilverding (Darla). She also leaves behind eight loving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In her spare time, Doris was an avid artist with many of her paintings gracing the homes of her family members. Doris is remembered for her strong will, determination and the love and support of her family. She also was a dedicated and devout member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach.  A memorial service will be held on Friday December 13th at 11:00am at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

What a beautiful lady! And, what a gift to have known her! Doris and I shared many conversations together when her health permitted it. I will miss our talks, however I know she’s in a better place. Rest peacefully my friend. I am with you always. —Matthew 28:20
