Dorothy Verross Gwilym April 21, 1929 – July 11, 2017
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio in the throes of the depression, Dorothy mastered the art of saving, reusing, and recycling. She was ahead of her time. Daughter of a book store owner, she loved to read and work crossword puzzles.
She cherished her friends and maintained lifelong friendships with them. Carolyn Ezzo, Donna Clawson, Joan King, and Bonnie Bowen made up her tight circle of friends with whom she never lost touch.
Dorothy graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and, upon graduation, worked at the Mather Day Nursery School with her dear friend, Donna Clawson.
It was there that she met Jim Gwilym and knew he was “the one”. They married three months later in 1953 and started their family in 1954. The proud wife and mother of three children, she spent her life taking care of her family and home. She made her homes in Parma and Rocky River, Ohio, Richmond, Virginia, and finally moved to The Moorings in Vero Beach in 1978 where she and Jim enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement. Her life was full of love and laughter.
After Jim’s death in January, she struggled to live in a world without him. They are together again.
Dorothy is survived by children Marly Williams (Mike) of Vero Beach, Jim Gwilym (Jennie) of Freeport, Maine and Barb Gwilym of Vero Beach, and grandchildren Peter Gwilym, Lizzy Gwilym and Lettie Williams.
