Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Marc Douglas McCain, 48, passed away on September 15, 2023, in his hometown of Vero Beach, Florida. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother, and he was a beloved doctor for many families in the community.

At 8 years old, Marc decided to become a pediatrician and someday run Treasure Coast Pediatrics, a dream that was fulfilled twenty years later. He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, where he was voted “Mr. VBHS”- an honor he boasted about both sincerely and in jest. He attended the University of Florida (’96) and the University of South Florida Medical School (’00), and he completed a pediatric residency at the University of South Florida (’03).

Marc is predeceased by his mother Sharon and stepmother Gerri. He leaves behind his father Doug, wife Jeanette, daughters Emily, Madelene, and Mollie, and brothers Matthew and Michael.

Marc met his wife Jeanette when they were in the fifth grade together at Rosewood Elementary School. At age 15, they started playing tennis together, and they fell in love. They married on December 30, 1994. Their love and friendship never wavered for 33 years.

Marc and Jeanette have three daughters: Emily, Madelene, and Mollie. Marc took pride most of all in his children, and despite being outnumbered, he loved being a “girl dad.”

Marc will be remembered in a private service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Dr. Marc, more than just a doctor to us. For 13 years you have taken care of us. From the very beginning, on one of our first visits with Brayden; you started a conversation with us as we would come to realize was your way, about what we were up to as a family. At the time we were struggling, new parents with the bright idea of opening a pet crematory for our community but unable to get a loan to get started. You suggested we go see your friend at a local bank, he can probably help you. And that is exactly what we did. We got the loan and were able to open up a successful business that taught our family many life lessons that we would have missed otherwise. We will be forever grateful for our many conversations, the jokes we shared, and the care you gave to not only our family but the community as well. To your family, we thank you for sharing him with us and send all our love and sincerest condolences. Tim, Courtney, Brayden and Griffin Myers

Dr. Mark McCain will be forever missed. It still doesn’t seem real. Our family loved him dearly and our children who were his patients since birth (17 and 14 now) will always have a spot in our hearts for him. He loved his family and a week before his passing we were in the office with him for a sinus infection with one of the kids and this was the last conversation we had with him…. He was talking about how he couldn’t throw the ball as far as his senior in high school and how he had to work on it and didn’t feel manly as his daughter could throw the ball farther than him. He said he needed to work on this as a Dad. He was laughing. He was bragging on his girls in college. He was so proud and lit up the room when he was talking about this. I hope this brings some peace. Prayers coming to his entire family, friends and patients ❤️

Dr. Marc took our kids at ages 12 and 13 when their previous pediatrician stopped taking our insurance. Our daughter had been off and on sick for years but her diagnosis could not be determined. We took her all over the state: Mayo Clinic, Univ of Miami, and Fl Childrens hospital. Our first visit with Dr Marc: he said I know what she has but I’m not going to tell you yet, I’ll do a blood test first. Well he was right and she has celiac disease. He was a renowned physician and a truly gifted diagnostician. It was a God given gift. He was a huge blessing to our family and we felt like we were home every time we were in his office. Continued prayers for Jeanette and the girls. Thank you for sharing your life partner with all of us and I hope you have peace in knowing how many countless lives he helped and touched. We will never forget what he did for our family. We love you Dr Marc!!

We are truly heartbroken. Dr Marc you were the absolute best. You made appointments fun and more of a play date for my children than a medical appointment. The kids loved visits to your office. They loved the gorilla hand appearing around the door. The lights going out. The Halloween costumes. The chicken and cow noises coming from their ears as you looked in them. They loved how you counted the number of chicken nuggets they had in their tummy’s when you examined them. They looked forward to bringing in their new favorite toys to show you. They loved your crazy socks. They loved your smile. As a mother, I loved your no-drama, low key approach. You always knew the right thing to say or do to put my mind at ease. You always had time for us and you made us feel special, like you had all the time in the world for us. You liked hearing about what the kids were doing and how school was going, and I appreciated that. I enjoyed our chats about Europe and hearing about your travels in the UK. You always spoke so fondly of your family. Visiting your office was a pleasure. It’s hard to believe you are gone, but we shall remember you and the visits to your office fondly. The McCain family are in our thoughts, as well as the team at Treasure Coast Pediatrics. We were lucky to have known you and for you to have been our doctor. RIP Dr Marc. You will be missed.

Dr. Marc was our family pediatrician. Our three (now adult) children were under his care & when they turned 18, we were sad that they had to move onto a doctor for ‘grown ups’. He was a wonderful doctor and always entered the room with a smile and something funny to say. I remember when my son told him he wanted to get a tattoo and Dr. Marc said, “No!! Don’t you know that in the book of Leviticus it says not to tattoo your body?!” We laughed about that for years. Our kids loved going to see Dr. Marc, they knew they were in the best hands and would always leave the appointment happy. When one of our children was in the ER, Marc was there and was a HUGE support during a REALLY difficult time. His love for his patients was so evident and we truly thank God for him. Our family will always love him and be so grateful that he was part of our lives. We send MANY prayers, love and hugs to his wife and daughters (and his family). May the Lord Jesus wrap each one of them in His mighty arms and give them peace. Love, The Camacho Family

Dr. Marc was an amazing man. Not only was he my children’s doctor he was a friend. He never made me feel like I was overreacting or crazy as a first time mom. He was always patient and understanding. He answered my many questions and phone calls. He was there at my most vulnerable time being a mom. He healed every illness, fixed every bump or bruise and ran all the tests to found out what was wrong when we couldn’t get answers. I used to joke he was going to buy a boat and name it after our family we were at his office so much. As the years have gone by my girls have had fun joking with their beloved doctor. So much so that our daughter Hailey told us he is the reason she is going into the medical field in pediatrics. We all will miss him and continue to pray for his family.

Dr. McCain was the type of person who left a lasting impression on you no matter how short of time was spent with him. I volunteered in the hospital nursery while I was in high school and whenever he came in to do rounds on the babies, he was so kind to me. Always offering to teach me or let me observe. We are truly heartbroken by the news of our friend/colleague and pediatrician Marc McCain! When I think of him I think of a truly one of a kind person and an irreplaceable pediatrician. Most children dread going to the doctor, not mine, and not most of Dr McCains patients, bc he was truly hysterical and lit up a room. We had the honor of seeing him one last time a month before his passing for my little ones well child. I was so happy to capture a video of him teasing her with a fake bug on her leg, which I have now learned he did often. We are praying for Jeanette and his children and family members . We cannot imagine the level of grief you are dealing with and send you prayers of peace and healing during this time.

September 21, 2023, 4:10 pm

While growing up, Marc and his family lived directly across the street from my parents on 28th Avenue in Vero Beach. As I am 20 years Marc’s senior, I knew Marc from his birth to his early or mid-teen years, when my parents retired and moved away. My interactions with him were as a neighbor when I lived at home, then a bit more sporadic after going to college and then moving away. I always found Marc to be a kind and engaging person, even as a child. My wife, Cheryl, and I have been thinking back on the times we had with Marc in those early years. She reminded me of a vacation we took, wherein we went down to Vero to stay and visit with my parents. Marc came over to visit with us. Our then four year old daughter (now 39) developed an instant crush on the then 14 year old Marc McCain. She blushed. Marc realized that and began to talk directly to Christie. Much to her delight, she ran and gathered all of her dolls and stuffed animals (we did not travel lightly back then), and they went and sat on the floor in my parents living room. There Christie regaled Marc with the various names of her dolls and stuffed animals, along with other information young girls share about their dolls and stuffed animals. They talked, laughed, teased each other, and played with those dolls and stuffed animals for a period of time. Obviously, I had an early front row seat to the very core of Marc’s soul, seeing that he was a very kind and loving person; traits he had a firm grasp on from an early age. Needless to say, Marc has, and always will have a place in our hearts. Cheryl and I join Vero Beach in mourning his loss, and send out heartfelt condolences to his wife, three daughters, his father Doug, his brothers Matt and Mike, and their respective families. Rest in peace Mark.

Our family was heart-broken to hear the news of Dr. Marc’s passing. Dr. Marc has been taking care of our 3 kids for the past 10 years. When our boys were last there in July, our oldest was sad to hear that he would only have one more visit with Dr. Marc because he would be turning 18. Little did we know, that our daughter’s appointment 3 weeks ago would be our last time seeing our fun-loving pediatrician, Dr. Marc. With 3 kids, we were there often through out the years. We could always count on Dr. Marc’s humor, jokes, and good-spirited teasing. He was a special pediatrician and one that our family will truly miss. Marc you will be greatly missed by the entire community. I will miss your caring way in taking care of my children and grandchildren. May your family find comfort in knowing you are with your Heavenly Father. I for one will never forget you and your infectious laugh and charming smile. My heart is broken and I will never forget you.

In almost 5 months, it will be a whole year since you gained your heavenly wings. To this day and moving forward you will be extremely missed for the rest of our lives, your childrens lives, your entire familiy’s lives, our childrens lives, our grandchildrens lives. You have had such a special impact on everyone you came across. I was straightening up some papers and a small green paper floated down, i knew exactly what it was, it was our reminder of our appt for my grandson to get his one year old shot. You passed a week before that was to take place. I stood there with tears in my eyes holding that paper remembering that that was the last time I would see your signature. I just wanna make sure you know you are still missed, still loved and deeply respected

I don’t know what made me look you up today, except for the fact that you are still very well missed. I couldn’t believe that tomorrow you gained your heavenly wings. 1 whole year ago, it just doesn’t seem possible. We keep you and your entire family in our prayers, I hope your girls have been able to navigate through the time that has gone by. I also hope your wife is able to continue to be strong for the girls s well as for herself. It’s still incredibly sad that you had to go at such a young age. so many of our littles will never get teased only the way you could tease them and put my daughters mind to rest when she brought him to you. He just turned 3 on the 7th. Maybe that’s why I was thinking of you today because he was supposed to get his 1 year shot from you, and we were one week shy of that happening. I know you are looking down on your loved ones like a little “elf on the shelf” but on their shoulder, guiding them, watching out for them and loving them every single day. Still at a lose of words with you not here, so i’ll just say, so long for now ;(
