Duane Martin Weise departed from this earth on July 10, 2025. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, on August 21, 1923. He graduated from Irvington High School in 1941. After attending Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, he volunteered during WWII and joined the United States Army in January,1943. He was sent to the Army’s Specialized Training Program and assigned to work on the Manhattan Project at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. In 1946, he was discharged from the Army and immediately began completing his Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Following his graduation, he joined General Electric training program for the next year and then relocated to become the Director of Engineering at the WTTW broadcasting in Chicago. Duane spent 12 years at WTTW and during that time, he obtained his Master of Business Administration at the University of Chicago. His career sent him to Atlanta, Georgia, where he changed his profession to become a builder and developer.
Upon retirement, Duane moved to Vero Beach, Florida, with his wife, Jane Weise. They became members at the First Presbyterian Church and active in the community.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jane Suggs Weise, daughter, Carol Birk and Jeffrey Birk, son, David Weise and Jodie Dagesse, son, Christopher Weise and Debbie Gallogly, grandson, Nicholas Birk and Margaret Birk, grandson, Matthew Weise, and three great granddaughters, Susannah, Mary and Rachel Birk, along with his nephews Rick and Rob Murdoch and their families. Also, the children of Jane Weise, daughters, Susan Hall Wells, Lisa Hall Smith and son, Justin Hall and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Martin Frederick Weise and Harriet Belle Lowther, and sister, Frances Kuhl.
The Celebration of Life service to be held at Indian River Estates in the Carter Chapel at 1:30 p.m., July 18, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Sanctuary Building Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach, FL, 32960.
