Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
“Betty” Elizabeth M. Brackett was born to John E. McDermott and Ellen Smythe McDermott on September 4, 1921 in Manhattan, New York, one of four children. She passed away March 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by friends and family.
During WWII, she enlisted as a Red Cross nurse, where she met and later married Col. George Frederick Brackett, Jr. They had four children: George F. Brackett, III, Jonathan Craig, Jeremy Reed and Andrew Brackett, all of whom are deceased.
The Bracketts resided in Allendale, NJ until they moved to Vero Beach in 1979.
Mrs. Brackett is survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Betty continued to do volunteer work and was elected President of the Women’s Republican Aware Club.
The family would like to express their gratitude to VNA Hospice for the kindness and love shown our loved one during her illness. Without their help, Betty would have had to remain hospitalized. Also, to Miller’s Health Mart Pharmacy…thank you for the help shown to us during this difficult time.
The understanding and patience by the Lowther family has been amazing. Thank you for your assistance during this whole process.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Jaycee Park, 4200 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach.
Again, thank you to everyone, including our extended family, who have shown their concern to Betty. Blessings, the Brackett family.
