Eugene V. Schumann passed away December 19, 2024, at Hospice House Vero Beach from illness related to an automobile accident that occurred more than 30 years ago which left Eugene an incomplete quadriplegic.
He was born January 22, 1970, in Vero Beach and remained a resident of Vero Beach all his life. He attended Elementary School at St. Helen’s School and graduated from Vero Beach High School. After graduation he worked in the citrus industry primarily in his family’s groves. Eugene was a member of the Future Farmers of America.
Following his injury Eugene took a correspondence course in gunsmithing and became a licensed gunsmith, a profession which he continued to follow for the rest of his life. Eugene enjoyed target shooting and hunting and enjoyed the company of many friends who were attracted to his loyalty, good humor and ability to tell entertaining stories. One of Eugene’s niece’s commented that he had so much personality that he could hardly contain it in his body.
Eugene is survived by his wife Martha W. Schumann of Vero Beach, parents Mr. and Mrs. John Schumann Jr. of Vero Beach, sister-in-law Ann Waggaman of Vero Beach, sister Victoria Wyatt (Barry) of Mobile, Alabama, brother John Schumann III (Kim) also of Vero Beach, brother Mark Schumann (Cheri) of Santa Fe, New Mexico and also by an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother Donovan D. Schumann.
Eugene was a firm supporter of the Second Amendment to the Constitution and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a Mason and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Eugene was baptized in First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach and remained a Christian all his life.
The family is grateful for the care provided Cleveland Clinic Indian River, VNA Hospice and A Nurse’s Touch Agency.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on December 23, 2024 at 1:30pm with Rev. Dr. G. Timothy Womack officiating, with a reception following at the church and a private interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

My sympathies to all who loved him and to those who had the good fortune to call him a friend! If you spent more than twenty minutes with him, you couldn’t help but know him completely. He was always 100% himself, “what you see is what you get.” A great sense of humour, honest and his full heart is likely what you knew. I am honored to have called him a dear friend while here on earth and look forward to seeing him again running the streets of gold in heaven!
