Our Aunt, Flora Sampson, age 98, passed away January 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by loving family.
Flora was born in Cartago, Costa Rica and immigrated to the United States in 1924 with her mother, two brothers, and one sister. She lived in Anderson, Indiana before becoming a resident of Fort Pierce, Florida.
In 1989, Flora became a resident at Ocean Village where she served as Organist and Choir Director. Flora was a 20 year member of the Soundsations Choir and the A.W.O.L. at Ocean Village. She also served as Secretary of the Ocean Village Property Owners Association at Seascape II, for 15 years.
She will be well remembered for Chief Principal of Demonstration Elementary School in Dade County, Florida and for her assistance to government in the settling of Cuban immigrants after the Castro Revolution in 1959.
Survivors include nephews, Ron Sampson and Bob Sampson; nieces, Leslie Jones, Diana Gerkin, and Linda Simmons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Fort Pierce, Florida or to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
A memorial service will be held, to honor Flora on what would have been her 99th birthday, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Ocean Village Clubhouse with Lew Gwyn, III presiding.
