Garry Wayne Munson, age 75, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away on August 26, 2025, surrounded by love and family.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on July 3, 1950, to Virgil and Doris Munson, Garry grew up on the family property with his older brother, Craig. A proud graduate of Comstock High School, Class of 1969, Garry played football and carried his love of Michigan sports throughout his life.

In 1975, Garry married the love of his life, Lynne, in Chesaning, Michigan. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage – five decades filled with family, friendship, plenty of laughter, and Garry’s signature cooking (a necessity, as everyone in the family quickly learned Lynne was more gifted in other areas of life). For all 50 years, Garry cooked dinner nearly every night, becoming known for his culinary skills and love of gathering people around the table.

Garry retired in 2011 from Standard Electric in Kalamazoo, where he worked for over 30 years. Retirement gave him more time for the things he loved most: spending time with his family and friends, watching Michigan football, cooking, and enjoying holidays and special trips with Lynne and the family. He was rarely seen without a bold Hawaiian shirt and was always quick with a joke or one-liner (sometimes funnier to him than to anyone else, but always shared with love.)

At home, Garry was known as the keeper of the remote, never to be disturbed while watching the news or sports. He could be hilarious, sometimes a little grumpy, but always generous and deeply devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne; his children Jason (Jen) of Warrenton, VA, Andy (Katie) of Three Rivers, MI, and Nicki (Danny) of Dublin, GA; his grandchildren Brenton, Nathan, Lauren, Cecilia, and Vincent; and his brother, Craig (Linda) Munson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Doris.

The family will come together in Michigan this fall to celebrate Garry the way he would have wanted – with laughter, good food, bold shirts, and plenty of stories.

Garry will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud dad and grandpa, a great cook, and the heart of his family – a man who made life brighter, louder, and more joyful just by being himself.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan, in gratitude for the extraordinary care Garry received for his polycystic kidney disease (michiganmedicine.org/giving).
