Gary Dillon, Sr. of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away in his home on January 16, 2024, with his daughter Marlene, and his cat, Charlie, by his side.

Gary was born on January 1, 1947, to William and Beatrice Dillon in Detroit, Michigan, who both preceded him in death.  He is also preceded in death by his lifelong wife, Frances “Fran” Dillon (Pooh Bear), of 56 years, an infant child, Kenneth, who passed shortly after birth, his in-laws Lawrence and Antoinette Meli, and his stepmother-in-law Violet Meli, and his youngest brother, Glenn Dillon of Midland, Michigan.  He is survived by his five children: son, William Dillon of Jacksonville, Florida, son Gary Dillon, Jr. (Toni) of Vero Beach, son Robert Dillon, Sr. (Georgia) of Vero Beach, daughter Marlene Balogh (John) of Melbourne, Florida, and son, David Dillon, Sr. (Kandy) of Vero Beach.  Gary leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who he loved very much, and always enjoyed seeing them when he could.  He is also survived by his younger brother, Michael Dillon, and his brother-in-law, Frank Meli of Ferndale, Michigan.

Gary met his high school sweetheart, Fran, and soon married her on January 8th, 1966.  They moved to various locations throughout Michigan, primarily in the Midland area, where family still resides, and then in 1982 they picked up everything and moved the family to Ft. Pierce, Florida.  They lived in various cities in the area but settled in Vero Beach later in life.  They left a legacy with their large family of being very loving, forgiving, generous and thoughtful.

Gary was a roofer his entire life, working in one of the hardest professions there is.  He mentored three of his sons and a grandson who became well known in the roofing industry. When he was younger he was an avid hunter, with his largest buck being a 16 point Whitetail in Michigan.  He also loved fishing whenever he got a chance, spending time with family and friends on the water.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. with a funeral mass beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Uncle Gary, Thanks for always being there in my life as a Mentor, Protector, and most of all a friend. I will always cherish the good times we had together. A most favorite memory of mine is just sitting around the Fire Pit as a family and a kid and just talking about life. This was a man that would take his shirt of his back to help a perfect stranger in need of anything. I will miss our talks and you just being you Uncle Gary. May you rest in eternal peace and God Bless.

It deeply saddens me that I didn’t get the opportunity to make his acquaintance, or Uncle Glen’s, for that matter… Please know Jennifer and I are lifting y’all in prayer for strength and comfort in your time of loss.
