Gerard Davis Rumberger, 65, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2019 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
Jerry was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 1, 1953 to Wilson Rumberger and Regina (Flynn) Rumberger. He was the fourth of seven children. He graduated from Bishop Verot High School in 1971, and attended Juniata College in Pennsylvania on a football scholarship. He graduated summa cum laude in 1975 before returning to University of Florida to attend dental school. He opened his dental practice in Vero Beach in 1979, and it flourished for nearly forty years. He married Sharen Rumberger in 1979, and began his family of six children, all born between 1980 and 1988. He was an active member of the community, serving in the Kiwanis Club for many years and more recently as a member of Sunrise Rotary.
He was constantly contributing to the well being of others. In recent years, he put together a band of local dentists to travel to the Dominican Republic and provide free dentistry to rural communities. He was actively involved in the lives of all of his children, traveling across the country to spend time with them, and was an avid supporter of all of their endeavors. He played guitar and loved music and the outdoors. He loved camping, hiking, and boating — anything that got him outside and into nature. He was the best dad. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in passing by his parents, Wilson Rumberger and Regina (Flynn) Rumberger, his daughter, Kimberly Rumberger, and his brother, Joe Rumberger.
He is survived by his five children, Jennifer Rumberger of Chicago, Joseph Rumberger of Orlando, Lindsay Rumberger Rivera of Anchorage, Nancy Pinzino of Tallahassee, and Sarah Schrager of Orlando, their mother, Sharen Rumberger, and his five siblings, Ed Rumberger, Wilson Rumberger, Susan Yeomans, Paul Rumberger, and Nancy Betts, along with his four grandchildren. He was dearly loved by his family, and will be greatly missed.
