Gus T. Skarlis, 80, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Gus was born November 17, 1942, in Mason City, Iowa to Evangeline (Manolis) and Thomas Skarlis.
He graduated Mason City High School in 1961 and then attended Mason City Junior College (NIACC).
In 1969, Gus married Nancy Yurigan and they recently celebrated 53 years together.
He was the owner-operator of Skarlis Olds-Honda-Nissan for over 30 years and loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes play.
He was preceded in death by his parents Evangeline and Tom Skarlis, grandparents George and Helen Manolis, brother Anthony Skarlis and nephew Tommy Skarlis.
He is survived by wife Nancy; sons, Gus Skarlis Jr. and James Joseph Skarlis; grandchildren, Giada Skarlis, Carter Skarlis, Gavin Skarlis, Clay J Skarlis; brothers, J George (Shirley) Skarlis, James (Sandra) Skarlis and many nieces and nephews.
A Family Memorial service was held on March 10, 2023, at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel.
Memorials may be given to Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Ft. Pierce, Florida or The Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Mason City, Iowa.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
