James Bernard Shields, 72, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, unexpectedly.
He was born October 26, 1940 in Akron, Ohio and moved to Vero Beach 32 years ago, coming from Chicago, IL.
Mr. Shields was a graduate of the University of Akron, receiving his Bachelor�s degree in chemical engineering.
He had worked as project manager with Taylor Instruments, Chicago, IL for 10 years and with Vara International, Vero Beach, as project manager for 9 years prior to his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Shields served on the Board of Directors of Vero Beach Opera and a was a member of Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club, Vero Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Shields; son, Eric Shields; daughter, Tammi Shields; two step-sons, Daniel Gore of Port St. John, FL and Robert Gore of Dania, FL; three brothers, Michael Shields of NC, Father Patrick Shields of Akron, OH and Andrew Shields of Stowe, OH; two sisters, Bernadine Meyers of OH and Eileen Shields of New York City, NY and three grandchildren.
Mr. Shields was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann.
Private services will be held.
