Janice R. Cato Johnson, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Janice was a graduate of Vero Beach High School and attended Broward Community College and Florida Atlantic University. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was a teacher and education administrator for the Indian River Correctional Institution.
Janice grew up in the community of the Covenant Church in Vero Beach, now called Gracespring. She was a founding member of Christ the King Church. She was an advocate for Care Net Pregnancy Center of Indian River County.
Janice married Stanley Johnson in October 1951 in Vero Beach. Together, they had three children. After the Lord, Janice’s family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed Bible studies and genealogy and made the best rice pudding ever.
She is survived by her sister, Susan (and Otis) Humanes; children, Kenneth (and Debra) Johnson, Pamela (and John) Burns, and Bruce Johnson. Her grandchildren also survive her: Sarah Johnson, Seth (and Mary) Johnson, Cheri (and John) Marques, Derian Pritchett, Hanna Clark and Elijah Carter, David (and Marianna) Burns, Rebecca Burns, and Cruz Johnson, several nieces and nephews, and 18 great-grandchildren: Aaliyah. Anna, Milena, Mia, Emanuel, Rachel, Ella (B), Sarah, Lilly (M), Eli, Selah, Raelynn, Edward, Stanley, Zoie, Lilly (P), Logan, and Ella (C).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivey and Madie Lee Cato, her husband, Stan, her sisters, Wanda Asafaylo, and Marilyn Anderson.
Internment will be at 10:00 AM, at Crestlawn Cemetery, for the immediate family members.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Gracespring Church, 1955 20th Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida. A small luncheon will be provided.
