John Robert Krail, of Vero Beach, passed away on October 22, 2021. Born March 17, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of George Alexander Krail Sr. and Justina Wall Taggart Krail. John was preceded in death by his former wife of 26 years and mother of his two children, Sally Dawn Kelly Krail, and by his second wife of 30 years, Leah Mary Willem Krail. John is survived by his brother-in-law and sister, Ron and Elizabeth Keppler; his son, David Krail; and son-in-law and daughter, Rob and Suzanne Sevin. John also had five grandchildren: Gretchen Sevin Owen, Katherine Sevin, Robert Sevin, David John Krail and Melissa Krail.
John grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated as valedictorian from Roxborough High School in 1952, and cum laude from LaSalle College in 1968. John served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1957-1963. John’s professional career centered on being a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) with INA/Cigna. In 1972, John was transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana, and he later moved throughout the southeast for his job. In 1995, John retired to Indian River Estates (IRE) in Vero Beach, Florida. While in Vero Beach, he served in leadership positions with many organizations including the IRE Resident Association, the Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLiCRA) and the National Continuing Care Residents Association (NaCCRA). For decades, John volunteered as a driver for the Indian River County Volunteer Ambulance Squad (IRCVAS) and also served on the Board of Trustees at Grace Baptist Church. John was a life-long Philadelphia Phillies fan and compiled a stats book from the beginning of the franchise. Other favorite pastimes included reading and playing poker on Monday nights with the IRE guys.
A graveside ceremony will be held for family at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
