John Scott Sherman Jr., 96 passed peacefully in April 2025, at home in Vero Beach, Florida.
“Jack” was well known for his intelligence, wit, generosity, kindness, and was of Christian faith.
He was born in Charleston, West Virginia in August 1928, and moved to Miami, Florida at 2 months old. His parents were Miami Pioneers and lived in Coral Gables.
He served in the United States Army during WWII.
He retired from the Indian River Property Appraisers Office after many years of independent real estate brokerage and appraisal. Retirement brought a move to Blowing Rock, North Carolina where he and wife, Nan, lived for many years.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club, Sons of the American Revolution and the local Board of Realtors. He had many interests such as golf, painting, needlepoint and was an avid reader. He served as museum docent and became a master gardener.
Jack received his BA from the University of Florida, class of 1952 and was an enthusiastic member of Theta Chi fraternity (TAU). Go Gators!
He is survived by his children, Roger, Liz and Andrew (Carman) Sherman; grandchildren, Christopher and Katie Sherman; and four beloved nieces, Adrienne, Julia, Rosemary, and Nancy Kain.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

My Uncle Jack was so funny and smart. He could of been a cartoonists. For many years he published a witty news letter about the going ons of his life and the world and towns around him. I saved them and treasured them . He could tell a good tale and he loved history,family,gardening,and kitty cats. I will miss him. I’m pleased to believe he is with his wife Nan,his dear sister Mary Jane and his parents John and Virginia in the big garden in the sky

I loved your Dad and especially his great sense of humor. I remember well his presence at the Vero Beach Board of Realtors dinners at the Dodger Pines Country Club when his wit would have many of us rolling on the floor with laughter. He will be greatly missed by a great many people.

My uncle Jack was an amazing person. He had many stories and experiences and generously shared his knowledge.
He always made me feel special and loved.
I miss him already and know I’ll miss him more each passing day.

My Uncle Jack made his mark in real estate, but I’ll remember him for the artist & comedian that he was!I I hope you’re cracking them up & drawing cute characters along the way! Our memories with Jack are cherished. He was kind and giving and loved his family dearly. He was fun, creative, patriotic and created beautiful gardens. We will miss him and wish we could be at his service to celebrate his life. Well done Jack – you loved and lived life to the fullest. Go Gators!
