Joyce E. Kindel, 88, passed away January 2, 2026, in Vero Beach, Florida.
Joyce was born on December 22, 1937, in Jackson, Michigan to Roberta (Crockett) Gandy and Willard (Bill) Gandy. She spent her youth in Michigan, Illinois, and California before moving to Florida in 1955.
In 1972 she moved to Vero Beach with her four children. As a bookkeeper she worked at John’s Island, Vero Beach Country Club, and the Moorings, respectively. During this time, she completed her diploma and took college accounting classes which eventually led to her opening her own solo, and finally, partner business, lasting over 30 years.
Her lifelong passion was to be an artist. Finally able to take art classes and professional workshops, she produced many works, some of which were in shows and won awards: 1st Place Beta Sigma Phi Convention, 1990; Juried Show, Backus Gallery, Ft. Pierce, 1991; and Art by the Sea Show, Vero Beach Museum of Art, 1998-2011.
In 1981, Joyce married Paul Kindel. He was very supportive of everything she did. They were able to travel quite a bit, and he willingly accompanied her on many art retreats, and visits to friends and families.
For many years, she was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and the Treasurer of the Vero Beach Art Club.
She is survived by children; C. Danita Bohmer, Desmond H. Grooms, L. Keith Grooms, Tonya G. Davey and Stevie (Kindel) Connor: grandchildren; Andrea Bullard, Monica Bohmer, Sonja Bohmer, Luke Bohmer, Kyle Davey, Douglas Davey, and Megan Connor: and 7 great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Paul E. Kindel), grandsons Mark Bohmer and Sean Conner, and siblings John Herman, Richard Grant, and Kenneth Grant.
Joyce will be sorely missed by her friends and family. We all miss her for many reasons, but one that sticks out the most is her great sense of humor.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Vero Beach Church of Christ, 3306 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Vero Beach Art Club, 1903 14th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960, designating it be given for the Joyce Kindel Scholarship Fund.

I had the pleasure of knowing Joyce and being her ” bug man”. For well over 12 years. She was always a kind and gentle person and easy to speak to. Most of all she was genuine and was interested in what was going on I’m my life. Because, I was interested in hers. Her ART work was awesome. I treasure the times being her friend and she will be truly missed. God bless her and all of her family. Thank you for letting me know you, Joyce.
