Kathleen “Cookie” Geyer, 81, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully in her home on May 6, 2021.

She was born March 14, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY and moved from Long Island, NY to Vero Beach, FL in 1976.

Cookie started as a bus driver for the Indian River County School District. During this time, Cookie played an important role as one of the founders of Communications Workers of America Union for representing Professional Support Employees of Indian River County. Cookie worked her way up, later serving as the Director of Transportation.

Not one to sit idle for long, Cookie came out of retirement to work as the Assistant Director of Transportation to Bob Veres, in Clay County for several years.

Once Cookie retired, she returned to Vero Beach where she enjoyed playing golf with the girls, weekly lunches with transportation retirees and swimming in her pool. Cookie loved good music and was always ready to dance.

Cookie was the matriarch of the family. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her!

Survived by her children, Greg (Nancy) Geyer, Kim Geyer Medeiros (Chris Hall), Jeff Geyer, Keith (Danielle) Geyer; ten grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Johnson, Bridget (Ryan) Garner, Joe (Michaela) Heaton, Sherry (Jared) Cook, Katie Rose, Brittany Rose, Erika (Jason) Papadoplous, Kristin (Tommy) Geyer Sleeper, Christopher Geyer, and Hailey Steinberg; five great grandchildren, Thomas Heaton, Tristian Heaton, Noah Garner, Anastasia Garner and Jasper Johnson.

She was predeceased by her two children, P.J. Geyer and Kathy Geyer Heaton.

Cookie was a very special person to our family. She and my Dad were the best of friends and shared many years working together for the SDIRC. We will miss her calls just to check in, lunches at Sonny’s with the retired Bus Garage crew, sharp wit, loving heart and smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Geyer family.

I remember Cookie first as my bus driver to school, then l got to work on her bus with her students. She taught me so much by example and actions. Thur her l learned to love our students as being a bright light to be drawn to. I continue to work with special needs children for 25years, not just on the bus but later as a custodian at a elementary school, because of all she taught me they allowed me to spend time with them at the school. Thank you Cookie.

My prayers and condolences go out to the Ms Geyer Family. I worked under Ms Geyer a school Busdriver from February 11,1995 to December 18,2006 that’s the year she retired. And we got a new director in February 2007. Me and Ms Geyer became best of friends and she is truly going to be miss. Family you guys stay strong and when u are down and Ms Geyer gets on your mind and heart look toward heaven the skies. Ask God to give u all the strength he will I know cause he did it for me . When I lost my mom 5 years ago, not going to tell you it will be easy cause it’s not. Take it one day at a time look at it like this she not in anymore pain now and she is suffering she is in a better place now. Amen❤️
