Kathleen Marie (Seguss) Varney, “Kathy,” 63, passed away on April 26, 2025, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. She was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a young adult.

Kathy grew up in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was proud to be from there and a devout Washington Redskins fan her entire life. Kathy graduated from the Art Institute of Florida, Lauderdale, and was a very talented photographer. Her most joyous time behind the camera was capturing concerts, one of her favorite pastimes. She loved music as it spoke to her soul, and she often felt a closeness to the musicians behind the music. She loved animals deeply and often found herself with many strays that made their way into her life.

Kathy was a free spirit, passionate, and loved deeply.

She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Varney Naughton (Dylan); her granddaughter, Hailey Naughton; her brother, Andrew Seguss; sister, Deborah Denton-Sterns; half-sister, Linda Schulz; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents, Hilda Llompart Seguss, Russell Seguss, and her sister Lorraine.

Pay attention to the open sky

You never know what will be coming down” – Jackson Browne

A memorial will be announced in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at a later date.

This paints a beautiful picture of Kathy. I remember all her photos of the Washington Redskins from on the field. She was so excited to be able to be that close to the players & game. And I have so many wonderful photos & memories that Kathy took for me. I know she in heaven enjoying the angels sing now. Beautiful music for a beautiful soul! ✝️
