Kenneth Joseph Allerman, 86, passed away peacefully January 9, 2014 in Vero Beach Florida.
Son of Jacob and Rose Struble Allerman, Ken was born and raised in Butler, New Jersey. Upon graduation from Butler High School, he served two years in the U.S Navy before attending University of Miami, (Oxford Ohio) where he earned his Master of Education degree. His career in education began in Wayne N.J. and was completed in Montville N.J. , but the majority of it was invested in the students of the Pequannock School System, serving as coach, athletic director, vice principal, principal, assistant superintendent and ultimately superintendent of the school system. Ken was also instrumental in the initial development of recreational facilities and programs at Fayson Lakes, where his legacy of community continues to this day.
While attending Miami, Ken met and fell in love with Nancy McBride of Omaha Nebraska. They formed a Miami Merger and celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together they raised three children Jeff Allerman (Susan Brown), Kurt Allerman (Kim Schwab Allerman) and Tracey Pilsch (Tom Pilsch), and are blessed with eight grandchildren (Katie Allerman Hussey, Dan and Becca Allerman, Ryan and Madison Allerman, Lindy Allerman Stoner, Matthew and Jonathan Pilsch) and two great grandchildren (Kylea and Kalynn Stoner). Kens caring outgoing personality created a circle of friends that were an important part of his extended family. Ken had two siblings. His sister Doris preceded him in death, and his brother Lee, who resides in Butler.
Ken was a man of profound faith. Raised in the Catholic Church, serving in various roles at Our Lady of Magnificat Church, while residing in Kinnelon. In Keokuk, he was an active member of the First Christian Church. Ken believed in Christ and studied the word of God on a daily basis and knew the source of all great gifts is God our loving creator. Ken shared that joy through the conversation, smile, hug or handshake with all he met.
A small family memorial service celebrating his faith and life was held on the beach in Florida. A larger memorial celebration is being planned for this summer in Keokuk, on July 5th, so Ken can have the big party he always wanted for his friends and family to celebrate his life.
